Marko Katalan

The Story

A career built across disciplines.

The most useful perspective rarely comes from looking at a problem through only one professional lens.

Marko Katalan's professional path has rarely followed a conventional line. Before entering the worlds of law, finance and advisory, he played basketball professionally — an experience that shaped an early understanding of discipline, performance, competition and the dynamics of high-performing teams.

Since then, his career has spanned German corporations, corporate law, business consulting, strategic advisory and investment banking. He has worked across complex commercial environments and alongside entrepreneurs, executives, investors, international officials, ambassadors and ultra-high-net-worth individuals.

Having lived on three continents and worked across different countries and cultures, Marko brings an international perspective to problems that rarely fit neatly within one market, one industry or one professional discipline.

Today, his work is increasingly personal. Rather than approaching a client through a single transaction or discipline, Marko acts as an adviser to entrepreneurs, executives, principals and families — helping them think through business, capital, ownership, negotiations, international opportunities and consequential decisions.

From the Court to the Boardroom

Performance is rarely accidental.

Professional sport was an early education in performance under pressure.

Basketball taught Marc lessons that continued long after his playing career: preparation matters, discipline matters, the people around you matter, and individual talent means little without the ability to perform within a team.

The environment later changed from the basketball court to corporations, law firms, financial institutions, boardrooms and advisory relationships. Many of the fundamentals did not.

When the pressure increases, clarity becomes more — not less — important.

Perspective

The person across the table matters.

Over the years, Marc has sat across the table from founders and employees, lawyers and bankers, executives and investors, public officials and ambassadors, family-business owners and ultra-high-net-worth individuals.

Different environments bring different priorities, incentives and pressures. Understanding those perspectives is often as important as understanding the numbers themselves.

Titles change. Industries change. Countries change. The fundamental questions often do not.

What are we trying to accomplish?
What really matters?
What are we missing?
Who needs to be aligned?
What happens if we are wrong?
And what is the next move?

Marko role is to help answer those questions with independence, discretion and perspective.

Beyond One Market

Experience changes perspective.

Business decisions are made by people, and people are shaped by more than their professional titles.

3 Continents

Having lived across Europe, Asia and North America, Marko brings a perspective shaped by different markets, institutions, cultures and ways of conducting business.

6 Children

Being a father of six has added another dimension to Marko's understanding of responsibility, priorities, time and the meaning of building something for the long term.

∞ Perspective

From sport to law, corporations to finance, entrepreneurship to family offices — each environment contributes another way of seeing the same problem.

Today

Personal advisory. Broader perspective.

The more consequential the decision, the more valuable an independent perspective can become.

Today, Marko increasingly works as a personal adviser to entrepreneurs, executives, principals and families. The relationship extends beyond solving an isolated business problem. It is about understanding the individual, the business, the capital, the relationships and the longer-term objectives surrounding a decision.

His work with family offices follows the same philosophy: understand the principal first, then understand the businesses, investments, relationships and long-term objectives around them.

The value of an adviser is not simply knowing one field. It is being able to see how the different pieces interact, identify what matters and bring the right perspective to the decision.

Beyond the Boardroom

Business is part of a larger picture.

Three continents. Six children. Several careers. One evolving perspective.

Marko has lived on three continents, studied and worked across different countries and cultures, changed professions more than once, built businesses, advised others building theirs and raised a family of six children along the way.

Those experiences have shaped a view of success that extends beyond a title, a transaction or a balance sheet. Business matters. Capital matters. Career matters. But so do judgment, relationships, time, responsibility and the ability to build something that endures.

This is also how Marko approaches executive and personal advisory: not as abstract life coaching, but as practical counsel for people carrying real responsibility — professionally and personally.

Philosophy

Good advice starts with understanding the person making the decision.

Businesses can be modeled. Transactions can be structured. Markets can be analyzed. But consequential decisions are ultimately made by people. Understanding their objectives, incentives, responsibilities and ambitions is where meaningful advisory work begins.
